VISIT FLORIDA Racing add Rene Rast

Rene Rast will race alongside Marc Goossens and Renger van der Zande behind the wheel of the #90 Gibson Riley Mk. 30 straight off the back of a successful 2016 season.

Rast has previous experience racing at the Rolex 24, he is a class winner with Magnus Racing, having taken two GT victories in 2012 and 2016 and competed in the event on five separate occasions, always in the GT categories. Rast will make his debut in the top level of IMSA competition, the Prototype category, at this years Rolex 24. He is however, by no means, a rookie when it comes to prototypes. Rast had a successful FIA WEC campaign with G-Drive Racing in 2016, where he took a win in the final race of the season in Bahrain, second place at Le Mans, and two further podiums at Silverstone and the Circuit of the Americas.

Alongside his previous class wins at Daytona, he has also won the Nurburgring 24 hours with Audi Motorsport in the R8 GT3  in 2014 and the 24 Hours of Spa twice, again with Audi, in 2012 and 2014.

Rast has always wanted to return to the Rolex 24 in the top category and had this to say:
"It is an amazing feeling to know that in a few days I will be back at Daytona," said Rast. "The Rolex 24 is one of my favourite races during the year and I can't wait for the action to begin. I have won the Rolex 24 now two times but not overall. My big dream was always to one day win it overall. Being part of a great team like Visit Florida Racing is a big honour and for sure it will bring a big smile to my face doing my first laps in their car. I followed the team over the past couple of years and always felt that they were one of the best teams, so I'm very proud to be part of this effort."

Team owner Troy Flis was incredibly excited about the teams new signing:
"We are very excited to have a guy like Rene join our Visit Florida line-up. He is quick and has a lot of valuable experience for us to tap into as we get ready for our first race with this Riley LMP2. I think he'll fit right in with Mark and Renger, so we are excited to get going with our new car this week here at the Roar."

All three drivers will be in action at this week's Roar Before the 24, which takes place between the 6th and the 8th of January, at Daytona International Speedway. The 55th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona takes place between January 28th and 29th 2017.

Speed Chills View will be on site for the whole event, working with our partners VISIT FLORIDA Racing to bring you all the latest news and updates throughout the event.
